Maurice Cary, CEO - DVM, PhD, Diplomate ACVP
A diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists since 1989, Maurice Cary received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Tuskegee University, USA, in 1980. He received his PhD in veterinary pathology (toxicologic) from Washington State University in 1985, where he also completed the pathology residency program at the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory. In 1985 Maurice accepted a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Research Pathology at Schering-Plough Pharmaceuticals, New Jersey. Upon completion of his Post-Doc in 1986, he was employed as a Senior Pathologist by Schering-Plough. In 1988 he joined Ciba-Geigy, where he served as Senior Pathologist. After a one-year exchange working at Ciba-Geigy's Basel, Switzerland site as a Pathologist in 1991, Maurice was hired by Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, also in Basel, as Head of Pathology in 1993. After the merger to form Novartis in 1996, Maurice moved from pathology to become Head of Contracting/Outsourcing for Toxicology with overall outsourcing responsibility for Novartis in Europe. In 2000 he founded Cary Consulting, based in Switzerland. Cary Consulting's primary focus was placing and monitoring studies in Contract Research Organizations, report preparation and review, regulatory document preparation, histopathology, peer reviews, and advising companies on compound development programs and strategies. Maurice served as the liaison for the Society of Toxicologic Pathologists (STP) to the European Society of Toxicology from 1995 to1998. He is presently a member of the editorial board of Toxicology Pathology, the journal of the STP, serving since 2005. In addition to being a founder and CEO, Maurice is involved as an expert in many of the service areas offered by the Company.
James Crissman – DVM, PhD, Diplomate ACVP
A diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists since 1984, James W. Crissman received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree with honors from Michigan State University in 1977 and, after a year in large animal practice in Ohio, moved to Ithaca, NY, and subsequently received his PhD in veterinary pathology from Cornell University. Jim’s career in toxicologic pathology began in 1983 at ICI Pharmaceuticals (now Zeneca) in Wilmington, DE, before returning to Michigan to work eleven years for Dow Chemical and six for Dow Corning between 1989 and 2006. In 2006, before joining Pathology Experts, he began his career as an independent toxicologic pathology consultant, providing services to the chemical industry, CROs, and nascent pharmaceutical and medical device companies. His experience includes hundreds of studies on a wide variety of test materials and medical device work over a range of experimental designs including all common test species, with durations from acute to two-year oncogenicity studies, mechanistic studies involving a number of organ systems, and peer reviews. He has authored more than thirty scientific publications, including a number on endocrine and reproductive issues. He has served on the ACVP Federal Affairs Committee since 1997, was a section editor for Toxicologic Pathology from 1999-2002, and has served on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Society for Medical Research since 2000, and as its Secretary since 2002. Jim is an incoming section editor for Veterinary Pathology (environmental pathology) and is the Editor of “Scope,” the newsletter for the Society of Toxicologic Pathology, for which he writes a regular column, “The Wrinkled Section.”
Andras Fabry - DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVP
A diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists since 1979, Andras Fabry obtained his veterinary degree from Liverpool University, UK, in 1962. He received a Master of Science degree in veterinary pathology from Colorado State University in 1979. Prior to starting his career in the US pharmaceutical industry, Andras spent a number of years in veterinary clinical practice and meat inspection/hygiene in the UK and Canada, respectively. In his 31 years of full-time employment in the pharmaceutical industry he has had a range of experiences. His initiation in the pharmaceutical world started at Schering-Plough as a Senior Toxicologist/Study Director (1968-1976). Following training and certification as a pathologist, he was employed as a Senior Pathologist/Principal Pathologist at Merck & Co., Inc., CIBA-Geigy Corporation (now Novartis) and Schering-Plough Corporation (1979-1999). Prior to joining Pathology Experts LLC, he has been a consultant in toxicologic pathology since 1999. His experience encompasses gross and histopathology data interpretation and peer reviews of short and long term pre-clinical studies in rats, mice, hamsters, rabbits, dogs and nonhuman primates. During his tenure with Merck he had close collaboration with their French scientific staff while undertaking several working trips to Merck's safety assessment laboratory in France.
